Bareilly is a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It’s the Biggest City in the Rohilkhand region. It is the eighth largest metropolis in Uttar Pradesh and the 50th-largest city in India.  The city is also known by the name Nath Nagri (for the seven Shiva temples located in the Bareilly region – Dhopeshwar Nath, Madhi Nath, Alaska Nath, Tapeshwar Nath, Bankhandi Nath, Pashupati Nath, and Trivati Nath) and historically as Sanjashya (where the Buddha descended from Tushita to earth).

Bareilly’s 2021 population is now estimated at 1,285,964. In 1950, the population of Bareilly was 207,021. Bareilly has grown by 30,677 since 2015, which represents a 2.44% annual change. These population estimates and projections come from the latest revision of the UN World Urbanization Prospects. These estimates represent the Urban agglomeration of Bareilly, which typically includes Bareilly’s population in addition to adjacent suburban areas.

As per provisional reports of Census India, the population of Bareilly City in 2011 is 9,03,668 (9.03 Lakhs) of which the male population is 4,76,927  and the female population is 4,26,741  

DENSITY

The initial provisional data released by census India 2011, shows that the density of Bareilly for 2011 is 8500 people per sq. km. Bareilly city administers area is 106 sq. km

LITERACY RATE

The average literacy rate of Bareilly City in 2011 was 68.25 %. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy was 72.74% and  63.23 %. respectively. Total literate in Bareilly city was 543,515 of which  305,805 are males while  237,710 are females.

SEX RATIO

With regards to the Sex Ratio in Bareilly, it stood at 895  per 1000 males. The average national best ratio in India is 995 as per the latest reports of Census 2011 Directorate. In the 2011 census, the child best ratio is 899 girls per 1000 boys

CHILD POPULATION

In census enumeration, data regarding child under 0-6 age were also collected. There were a total of 1,07,323  children under the age of 0-6 years. Of total 56,523  are boys while 50,800  are girls. Frog Marriage

A very uncanny and astonishing custom is practiced in this city – frog marriage, which is particularly done in the rainy season at the Ashwamedh Ghat. The priest performs the ceremony of wedding a couple of frogs and then they are then left into the river.
